We help you find the right school in France

Finding a suitable school abroad that truly suits your type, parenting style, and family situation isn’t always easy. That’s why we guide you step by step, using our timeline to map out the most suitable (international) schools in  France. During a consultation, we’ll take the time to answer all your questions and discuss any concerns. After the consultation, you’ll receive a personalized Education Mobility Report that clearly documents all the points discussed. Need additional guidance? Then you can opt for Admissions Support. We’ll actively help you plan school visits and guide you in contacting schools.

For primary- and secondary schools

Finding primary and secondary schools abroad that are a good fit for your family can be a challenge. Edufax supports families in choosing the right schools that align with their family and upbringing, always prioritizing the child’s development.

Insights into the French education system

The French education system differs from the Dutch education system. For example, children between the ages of three and eighteen are required to attend school. Primary education is divided into two phases. École Maternelle, or nursery school, is for children aged three to six. Once they complete this, they move on to École Élémenataire (primary school), which is for children aged six to eleven. After completing primary education, children move on to secondary education, which is for students aged twelve to eighteen.

Primary school

In France Primary School is refered to as École Élémenataire. École Élémenataire is divided into five grades: Cours Préparatoire, Cours Élémentaire 1, Cours Élémentaire 2, Cours Moyen 1 and Cours Moyen 2. The curriculum consists of French, Math, Science, History and Geography, Art, Music, Physical Education, Moral and Civic Education and Foreign Languages.

Secondary school

After finishing École Élémenataire children attend the Secondary School. Secondary School is divided into two stages. Lower Secondary School (Collège) is the first four years of Secondary School. After students complete these four years, they will attend Lycée (Higher Secondary School). The Lycée program lasts three years where students will be prepared for their final exam (Baccalauréat). The curriculum of Secondary School consists of French, Math, Science, History and Geography, Arts, Modern Languages, Physical Education, and Civic Education. Students can also choose electives such as Modern Languages II, Economics, Social Sciences, Latin, Greek and technical education.

Different French (international) schools near you

There are different types of schools in France, and it’s important to thoroughly research which one is right for your child and family. These include public schools, multilingual schools, private schools, and international schools. International schools in France are often located near larger cities. The type of school that best suits your child and family depends on several factors, including the parents’ wishes and the child’s needs. At Edufax, we’re happy to help you find the right school and guide you through the process.
