For primary- and secondary schools
At Edufax we support families in finding primary and secondary education that aligns with their needs and values. Together with the family, we explore different school options that best suits the family’s situation. During the process, we always keep the child’s development at the forefront.
Insights into the Australian education system
The Australian education system is different compared to the Dutch education system. Before children enroll in primary school, they can be enrolled in Preparatory School which is comparable with preschool. Preparatory School lasts 2 years and only the second year is mandatory. Children from the ages between 3 and 5 can be enrolled in Preparatory School.
Primary school
Primary education in Australia is divided into 6 grades. It lasts 6 years and is mandatory for all children. The curriculum consists of eight subjects: English, math, Science and the environment, society, technology and technical education, languages, art and physical education. Primary schools also offer activities such as music, swimming, dance and gymnastics.
Secondary school
Just like Primary School, Secondary School is divided into 6 grades (7-12) and lasts 6 years. The curriculum consists of 8 subjects: English, Math, Science, Humanities and Social Studies, Health and Physical Education, Languages, Technologies and Arts. In the first three years of Secondary School, students have the same curriculum as in Primary School. In the last three years, the curriculum consists of 6 subjects that students choose themselves.Â
Different Australian (international) schools near you
In Australia parents have a choice of different types of school for their children. At primary and secondary level parents have the option to choose between (international) government and non-government schools. Non-government schools can be divided into private schools and faith-based schools. Parents also have the option to enroll their children into a school where their educational philosophy is the same.Â
