Insights into the Saudi education system
Primary school
The Saudi education system includes pre-primary and primary education. Pre-primary education is for children aged 3 to 5. Primary education is mandatory and lasts six years, for children aged 6 to 12. The curriculum includes Arabic, science, art, math, and Islamic education. In recent years, the Ministry of Education has also made English instruction compulsory.
Secondary school
Secondary education is divided into intermediate and upper secondary levels. Intermediate education covers the first three years of high school. The final three years are upper secondary education. After intermediate school, students can choose between general and specialized secondary education tracks.
